Owners who donate will receive a 2026 steel plaque, 2026 membership print, membership decal, refrigerator cling, and a digital graphic for your rental listing that lets your guests know you are donating to the horses.

Horses live in family groups and form strong bonds with each other. These relationships are vital to the horses’ wellbeing. Healthy herd dynamics = healthy horses!

This is one of the many reasons why it’s important for humans to give the horses plenty of space, especially during foaling season. Pressure and stress can cause unrest that results in aggression, separation, rejection, and exhaustion, just to name a few things. Watch from a distance so these young ones can grow up wild and free!

Conservation Action that’s for the Birds!
Bird collisions with man-made structures (also known as bird strikes) kill up to one billion birds per year in North America. These often-fatal interactions are a result of birds not recognizing that windows and glass are solid barriers. Globally, the bird populations has fallen by 25% since the 1970s, and bird collisions are a large part of the problem.

Through the support of a grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island (NCARI) will be installing Feather Friendly®Bird Film on identified problem areas around the facility this spring.

Applied to the exterior of existing windows and doors and featuring a 2 by 2 grid of white squares that make glass visible to passing birds, while not significantly impacting sightlines, this unobtrusive technology is proven to be a durable, cost-effective solution to reducing bird strikes.

We are so excited for the opening of Practicing Persistence - A Pocosin Residents Exhibition this Friday, March 6 at 6:00pm. The group exhibition will feature work by Ryan Catalano (ceramics), Hannah Craft (metals), and Henry Merker (wood) who are three long-term residents at Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft.

The opening reception is free and open to the public, and will take place during the kick-off of the 2026 First Friday season in downtown Manteo. Join us!
