Boat Strike -- There was a severe case of a dolphin versus an outboard boat propeller recently in Nags Head and the animal died from its wounds. The photo of the carcass, taken on June 30, was too gruesome to publish.
If you’re going boating along the Outer Banks, please read up on the important information listed below so you can avoid a boat strike of a dolphin, manatee or sea turtle.
😎 Wear polarized sunglasses which help reduce glare and make these animals easier to see
🛥 Vessel operators should designate a wildlife spotter to keep an eye out for marine life
🐬 Keep your boat 50 yards away from dolphin, manatee and sea turtles
⚓️ If you find yourself less than 50 yards away from a marine animal, remember these three tips:
1. Use no-wake speed and put your engine in neutral
2. Don't expect these marine animals to move out of your way, instead, move away from them slowly
3. Make sure the animal is a safe distance away before starting your propeller

Happy summer, everyone! The island is buzzing, and we’re thrilled to see so many of you enjoying the season. Reservations aren’t always required, but they’re the best way to secure a table with minimal wait time. Just a quick reminder: we’re closed today, Tuesday. We’ll reopen tomorrow at 5:00 PM and serve dinner until 9:00 PM. From 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, we’re typically at full capacity, but after 8:00 PM, it’s usually easier to snag a table.

Employee spotlight! We’ve been showing off our awesome seasonal crew lately, but today we’re spotlighting one of our year-round MVPs who’s basically done everything but build the restaurants himself — Chance!
This is Chance’s fourth season with us at NC Coast and Red Sky, and we’re pretty sure he’s held every position ever invented. Server? Check. Host? Yup. Dishwasher? Probably. Crisis support staff? Absolutely. But where he really shines is as a Cater Chef, making magic happen behind the scenes.
Alexis (our catering sales manager) recently summed it up perfectly:
“He’s always got a smile on his face and a welcoming hug, respectful, and highly determined to provide excellent food and service to his guests.”
And now… cue the tissues — Chance is leaving us (because he’s graduating college like the responsible, talented adult he is), and we are NOT okay. 😭 He’s been such a core part of this wild restaurant family that we’re considering chaining him to the kitchen (kidding… mostly).
You’re a gem, Chance. Thanks for doing it all—and doing it so well.
