If you've visited our aquarium you know about our pollinator garden, where you can see a variety of different species of bees (and other pollinators) at work. Did you know there are over 20,000 species of bees worldwide? There are over 4,000 native bee species in the United States, and 500 of them in North Carolina. Bees are the main pollinators for agricultural plants in the United States, meaning we should be thanking bees every time we sit down to eat a meal! Unfortunately, bee extinction rates are 100-1000 times higher than usual due to human impact. To help protect bees, you can start by planting native plants in your own yard. We are always looking for ways to connect with our community. Coffee Chat with a Cop is another new effort to help bring police officers and the community members they serve together to learn more about each other, ask questions, share thoughts and ideas, and more.
