As a part of the nonprofit’s 50th anniversary, Dare Arts is elevating its long-standing events, and that focus was evident as over 1,500 children and adults gathered at Dowdy Park on May 10 for the 36th Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival presented by PNC Bank. 

In between an outstanding production by Atlantic Dance and Saakumu Dance Troupe’s second performance, Dare Arts Board Member Lisa Brickhouse Davis announced that First Flight High School Senior Mary Williams was selected as the 2025 Artrageous Youth Scholarship recipient.

A huge thank you to the students, parents, and teachers from Outer Banks Montessori Collective and Wilbur Gardens for helping bring the new beach toy library to life at our Bonnett Street public access. We’re excited to have this resource available for kids (and parents, since it means lugging fewer things to the beach) to enjoy. It’s a great way to share, play, and give beach toys a second life. We love seeing our community come together like this—thank you!

As far as a beach day goes, it looks like a washout - literally. But every day is good for something. If you’re vacationing on Hatteras Island, it’s a good day for a little shopping between the rain bands, for reading books and visiting with family, and low-key activities like puzzles and crafts. Come see us for craft supplies, craft kits, puzzles and more.
