Due to our staff’s participation in today’s meeting for the North Carolina Responsible Alcohol Seller Program, we will be opening one hour late at 12:00 noon. We appreciate your understanding as we ensure that all Lost Colony Tavern employees are prepared to execute a fun (a SAFE!) summer season for all of our guests!!

So yesterday morning we arrived at work to find Lost Colony Brewery's “Get to Know the Locals” beer delivery truck (you may remember it; it’s the one with all the different beer labels on it) parked in front of the tavern, and an entire household’s worth of furniture, bedding, and appliances neatly stacked on the lawn beside the truck.

It turns out that Paul Charron and his son Keagan took a day off of brewing to help our local computer whiz and his wife move out of their house and into their new home.

Now keep in mind two things: (1) Paul is one of the busiest men I know, so for him to take a day off to help someone move is rarer than finding a Budweiser in his hand (I’ve only seen it a couple of times and it was for demonstration purposes at one of his Beer School events. Also, the Bud was not consumed as it had become “skunked” after exposure to sunlight). And (2), Paul has a very specific policy on moving: It’s a young man’s game. Moving furniture yourself is acceptable in college and into your early-to-mid 20’s, but after that one should hire a professional moving company.

So when we all noticed Paul & Keagan doing heavy lifting in Downtown Manteo on a Brew Day, we knew there had to be a very important reason behind it...and there was. Jason & Jennifer are a special kind of Manteo townsfolk, and Jason’s come to the rescue of numerous Outer Banks businesses for computer problems on many occasions.

And thinking about it, I guess there’s also a #3: That’s just the kind of guy Paul is…and the kind of community we are. Lifting a keg is one thing; nursing a 400-pound solid oak armoire down three flights of narrow staircase is another thing entirely.

So the next time you see Paul or Keagan, let ‘em know how much this community appreciates them. Crack open a Kill Devil Scotch Ale on your back porch or grab a six-pack of Hatteras Irish Red from your local grocery store. Thank you, Paul & Keagan, for everything you do!
