Have you visited any of the seven rivers that run into the Albermarle Sound? Have you visited the seven rivers of the aquarium? The fresh and brackish water environments of the Albermarle Sound are among the wildest and most productive on the East Coast. The seven major rivers feeding Albemarle Sound carry nutrients that support abundant plant life. In turn, this sustains many kinds of fish and invertebrates. The adjacent swamps and forests were once nearly impenetrable, and undeveloped areas are still home to alligators, black bears, red wolves, migratory birds, and a great variety of other wildlife.

The Towne Banks Outer Banks Marathon & Half Marathon is right around the corner! The OBX Towne Bank Marathon is the oldest continuously running road race in the Outer Banks! The marathon course is fast and flat, which makes it the perfect place for your first marathon or even your own personal record! Participants will enjoy the gorgeous natural scenery along the course as it twists and turns across the islands of the Outer Banks. Spectators line up to cheer on all the athletes and as you cross the finish line, the party is right there waiting for you! The post-race celebration will feature live music and entertainment, as well as excellent southern barbecue (free for all runners!) and an awesome beer garden for all those 21+.
