Best in Show -- Chip Hemingway, the architect who designed Jennette’s Pier, is also an accomplished artist and he recently won Best of Show in the Fresh from the Outer Banks Plein-air painting festival with more than seventy-five artists. He’s pictured with the winning painting in the second-floor gallery at Dare Arts Gallery in Manteo during First Friday last week. According to their website, Plein air artists are invited to come celebrate this “open-air” style of painting. It’s a wonderful time of year to get outside, connect with other artists, and discover the beauty and charm of the Outer Banks, they reported. Award-winning American impressionist, Fen Rascoe from Windsor, NC judged Fresh from the Outer Banks. He paints alla prima in oil whether in plein air or in the studio and is represented by ArtSource Fine Art in Raleigh and City Art Gallery in Greenville.

Did you know? The Ocracoke Lighthouse is the oldest operating lighthouse in North Carolina and the second oldest in the U.S. still in use. ⚓️
Built in 1823, its whitewashed tower stands 75 feet tall and can be seen nearly 14 miles out to sea. While the interior isn’t open to the public, visitors can explore the grounds and learn about its history as a guide for sailors navigating the shoals of the Outer Banks. 🌊✨
